Climate justice

“It will be us children who will be here on this planet in 80-90 years, with this knowledge we also learn that we are in many crisis’: the climate crisis, the water crisis, the poverty and the justice crisis. All of them are very important and essential global issues which can only be encountered if we all work together.

Every day we pollute the air with as much CO2, in forms of domestic gas, crude oil and carbon, as the sun saves in only one million days.”

At the same time, in this rich world, 30.000 children die of hunger or due to curable illnesses. Must we children continue to fight over water like our parents are fighting over oil?

The German Advisory Council on Global Change has developed an innovative approach to tackling the problem of climate change. A key component is an agreement between the community of states regarding a cap, in the form of a global budget, for the total amount of carbon dioxide that may be emitted from fossil-fuel sources until the year 2050, in order to avoid dangerous climate change. The global CO2 budget is subdivided into national CO2 budgets among all countries on an equal per-capita basis.
